An Obituary for Tamra Leanne Umsted Kilgore,

Lovingly Prepared by the Kilgore Family

Tamra Leanne Umsted Kilgore was born March 5, 1963 in Dumas, Texas to Jerry Umsted and Cathryn (Brown) Umsted and passed from this life June 14, 2022 at the Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa at the age of 59.

Tamra moved to Wetumka with her family at the age of 3. She attended the Wetumka School system and graduated as the Valedictorian of the 1981 class of Wetumka High School. While in school she served as the Lt. Governor of the Texas/Oklahoma District of the Kiwanettes. As a member of the Wetumka High School Band she won first place in state competition and was a member in the All-State Orchestra playing clarinet.

She married Wilburn Cecil Kilgore, Jr. on November 22, 1986 in Wetumka and they made their home in Ada.

Following graduation from high school she enrolled at East Central University in Ada where she completed a five year Bachelors Degree in the nursing program in four years. Upon completing her State Nursing Board exam in 1985 she was told that she had scored the highest grade in entire nursing department of East Central University. She first worked for the Shawnee Medical Center in the ICU before becoming Director of Nurses at the Jan Francis Nursing Center in Ada. She later relocated to Rolling Hills in Ada as a charge nurse. Before ill health restricted her she was the education coordinator for the Americare Home Health Service. Her degree and vast experience certified her as a nursing instructor. Tamra was a member of the Oklahoma Nursing Association, the American Nursing Association, and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church.

Tamra loved listening to Gospel music, reading her Bible, and especially loved her God and her family, especially her nieces and nephew. Even as she was preparing to leave this life and move on to the next one she was still thinking of others by participating in the LifeShare program as an organ donor. She was dedicated to serving others to the very end.

She was preceded in death by her father, paternal grandparents Troy and Nola Umsted, and maternal grandparents Louise Morton and Lando Brown.

Survivors include: her husband Wilburn Cecil Kilgore, Jr. of the home; her mother Cathryn Umsted of Okmulgee; a stepson Kevin Kilgore of Florida; a granddaughter Kennedy C. Kilgore of Ninneka; a sister Vikki Umsted Goodwin of Salina, OK; 2 sisters-in-law Stacy Jane Harris and husband Steve of Edmond and Celia Peixotto of Shawnee; 5 nieces, Sarah Jane and Stevy Marie Harris, Rachel Goodwin, and Megan and Madyson Roark; a nephew Joshua Goodwin; an aunt Phyllis Carson of Bixby and an uncle Ronnie Brown of Okmulgee; along with several cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
