Jr.
Mar 2, 1948 — Sep 14, 2018
Selma Drake, Jr., ("Junior"), was born March 2, 1948, to Essie Mae Clark Drake and Selma Drake, Sr., in Clearview, Oklahoma. Junior accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the African Methodist Episcopal Church, in Clearview, Oklahoma.
Junior attended school in the Clearview school system though the eleventh (11th) grade. He completed high school at Weleetka, Oklahoma, in 1965. He enjoyed sports - especially basketball - and loved shooting pool and playing cards and dominoes.
Following graduation from Weleetka High School, Junior attended Langston University for at least two years. At Langston, Junior was given the nickname of "Clown" because of his outgoing personality.
Junior enlisted in the United States Army in 1968. He was a paratrooper and loved jumping out of planes. Junior was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, a Parachute Badge, and an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea). Junior served in the Army until 1971, having received an honorable discharge.
After his military service, Junior moved to Tulsa, where he was employed with Robinson Tire Company and later worked as a painter and brick layer. After several years, Junior returned to Clearview where he resided until illness necessitated his move into the Claremore Veterans Center in Claremore, Oklahoma, for the last four years. However, he had numerous hospitalizations at the Claremore Hillcrest Hospital, Muskogee Veteran Administration Medical Center, and four Tulsa hospitals.
Junior had a loving relationship with Cheryl Daniels. In this relationship, two children were born, Nikita Daniels and Selma Drake, III. In addition, Junior acted as step father to Cheryl's daughter, Shari Riser.
He departed this life on September 14, 2018, at Hillcrest Hospital South, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Junior was preceded in death by his mother, Essie Mae Drake, and his father, Selma Drake, Sr.
