Louise D. Horton was born Louise Harper on September 22, 1928, one of eight children, to Anna and Alfred Harper in Wewoka, Oklahoma. Louise attended school at Butner and after graduation attended Haskell Indian University in Lawrence, Kansas. She later became employed with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, which offered her the opportunity to move to different locations across the country. She met and married Lloyd Horton. She had two sons, Robert, born in 1956 in Billings, Montana and Sam, born in 1958 in Anadarko Oklahoma.
Upon moving back to her hometown of Wewoka in 1959 she never left. She divorced and she raised her sons and never remarried. After 42 years of service she retired from the B.I.A. She was an active member in her home church, Arbeka Methodist, until her health restricted her attendance.
Louise was preceded in death by both parents, seven brothers and sisters, her son, Sam of Wewoka, and grandson, Brad Horton of Shawnee.
Louise leaves behind one son, two nephews, two nieces, nine grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren.
Memorial Services for Louise Horton will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, July 2 at the First United Methodist Church of Wetumka, under the direction of Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home.
