Obituary

Jackie Dean Stripling was born May 18, 1949 in Holdenville, Oklahoma to Oliver Stripling and Izona Mae Hunter and passed from this life December 3, 2016 at the Alliance Health Midwest City Hospital of Midwest City, Oklahoma at the age of 67.

Jackie was reared in Holdenville and attended Holdenville Public Schools where he excelled in athletics. He was a pitching ace and player of the year in 1968 where he received All-State honors in baseball, track, football, and basketball two years consecutively. In addition, "Strip," as he was affectionately known, pitched the Holdenville Wolverines to two straight state titles. Following graduation from Holdenville High School, he attended East Central State College in Ada but did not play college sports due to the fact that he was already under contract to play professionally with the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. He played with the Cardinals farm team, the Arkansas Travelers, based out of Little Rock, Arkansas. In 1972, while still playing baseball in Little Rock, he married Lavada Marie Ballard of Clearview, OK. Due to a shoulder injury, Strip returned to Oklahoma shortly after to begin a new life. Proceeding him in death are his wife Marie and an infant son, Eddie Roy; both parents and his only brother, Mike Stripling.

When Jackie relocated to Seminole, he began working for the Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company as a lineman. He worked with OG&E in Seminole and transferred to Shawnee in the early 90's. He retired following thirty-five years of service. While working, he maintained an interest in sports, playing/coaching softball and refereeing high school and college basketball throughout Oklahoma. After retirement, he became an avid fan of his grandchildren as they participated sports. He also loved to cook and was known for his BBQ. Strip loved to hunting, fishing and picking up pecans. Most of all, he is remembered as an avid conversationalist and for sharing his ideas while serving you a platter of food. Strip never met a stranger and was loved by many.

Survivors include: six children, Sheldon Brett O'Guinn and wife Stephanie of Williamsburg, VA, Trilbya Stripling Anderson of Seminole, Delaney Stripling of Oklahoma City, Shelia Richardson and husband Wesley of Broken Arrow, Christopher Stripling of Shawnee, and Faith Zackary of Broken Arrow; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
