Obituary

Floyd Berry was born November 1, 1948 to Joe Romie & Katie Berry. He grew up and attended grade school in the community of Unity here in Hughes County, later continuing and completing his education in Wetumka Public Schools. Here in Wetumka is where he found his love for basketball, which remained throughout his entire life. Floyd was baptized in a pond as a boy, attended church in Unity, and at New Hope Baptist Church. Later in life, he was a member of First Baptist Church North, and more recently Living Water PHC, all in Wetumka.

Floyd met the future love of his life, Patricia Yarbrough, at a young age, later to be married. To this union, a beautiful daughter, Jacqueline was born in 1965. Four years later, Floyd was drafted into the Army in 1969 and served as a medic until 1971, when he was honorably discharged. Nine years later, he and Pat were blessed with an additional daughter, Melanie, born in 1980.

Upon return home from the Army, Floyd and Pat made homes in Tulsa, Wichita, and finally back to Wetumka. He held occupations in a variety of fields, retiring from the Wes Watkins Technology Center here in Wetumka.

After retiring, Floyd was able to enjoy more of his passion of manicuring and landscaping his home and property. Floyd was truly proud of the home that he and Pat built here in Wetumka. It was here in that home where Floyd departed this life to join his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 26, 2016.

Floyd leaves this beautiful legacy of love to his cherished family and friends: his wife Patricia Berry, of the home; two daughters Jacqueline Starks of Stamford, CT (husband John Sr, son John Jr, daughters Chelsea and Tiara), Melanie Moore of San Bernardino, CA (husband David, son Solomon, daughter Maliyah); one brother, Wilkie Berry Sr of Wichita, KS; Four Sisters, Bertha Beavers of Pixley, CA, Melvena Samilton of Wetumka, OK, Mable Loggins of Weleetka, OK, and Flody Patterson of Shawnee, OK; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relative and many friends. Floyd was preceeded in death by his parents, Joe Romie and Katie Berry; sisters Pearline Osborne , Dorothy Beavers, and Easter Smith; brothers Sam Berry, Leman Berry, Hudson Berry, Leford Berry, and Willie Berry.
