Evelyn
Basquez
Dec 31, 1938 — Jan 6, 2025
Evelyn Basquez was born on December 31, 1938 in Wetumka, Oklahoma to Sam and Alma Hill. Evelyn passed from this life on January 6, 2025 in McAlester, Oklahoma.
Evelyn was born and raised in Wetumka. She attended Wetumka schools.
On April 9, 1955, Evelyn married Ralph Basquez. To this union 5 daughters; Faye, Ann, Maxine, Nina, and Lisa were born. Together, they made their home in Dustin.
Evelyn wore many hats. She was a bookkeeper, she was a hand helping in the oil field, and she and Ralph had many business ventures. Some of those businesses include a café, a service station, a laundry mat, and a pool hall. Despite all that though, Evelyn considered herself a housewife, though she was rarely in the house.
She loved her family and would spend as much time with them as she could. She also enjoyed auctions. Most of all, she enjoyed going on rides through the town as often as she could. She would even go door-dashing with her grandson on occasion.
One of Evelyn's proudest achievements was going to GED classes. She learned all that she could. When she was told she was ready to take the test though, she refused. She knew all that she needed to, and she was just happy to know she could do it.
Left to cherish Evelyn's memory are her daughters, Ann Rinehart of Wetumka, Maxine and Mike Roe of Savanna, Nina and Ted Creason of Preston, and Lisa and Billy Ketchum of McAlester; her sister, Mildred Smith of Wetumka; son-in-law Bob Purdom; 18 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Alma Hill; her husband of 49 years, Ralph Basquez; daughter, Faye Purdom; brothers Irvin Hill, Pete Hill, and Alvin Hill; one sister, Margaret Timmons; son-in-law Butch Rinehart; and grandson, Loyd Allen White.
