Obituary

Edith Joan Osborn was born November 25, 1944 in Okemah, Oklahoma to George and Lavelle (Morgan) Diacon. She passed from this life at St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City at the age of 78.

As a child, Joan lived with her family in Mason and later Oklahoma City before relocating to Wetumka where she graduated Wetumka High School in 1962. On March 24, just before she finished school, she married Pete Osborn. They lived a short time in Oklahoma City before establishing a permanent home in Wetumka. With their home base in Wetumka, she traveled with her husband Pete all across the country while he worked on pipelines.

In 1983 she enrolled in college at the same time as her son, Kelly. She transferred from Seminole State College to East Central University where she graduated with a Bachelors degree in 1989. After graduating, she dedicated her life to social work with the Department of Human Services. She retired in 2004.

Joan is remembered as an avid OU fan. She also enjoyed the outdoors and loved working in her garden and going fishing. However, one of her greatest enjoyments in life was spending time with her grandchildren and more recently her great grandchildren. She also loved animals, especially her dogs and cats, and could often be seen outside in the mornings with them while enjoying a Marlboro and a cup of coffee.

Her husband preceded her in death in 2003. Her parents and siblings LaJean, Georgie, Loretta, Treva, and Glen also died earlier.

Survivors include: her children, Glenda Jo Scott and husband Tony of Wetumka and Kelly Wayne Osborn and wife Staci of Slaughterville; 2 sisters, Barbara Huckleberry of Henryetta and Susie Miller of Chickasha; her grandchildren Kristopher Wayne Osborn, Kasey Mechelle Sams, Kaylin Amanda Absher, Josey Isabella Osborn, and Sophie Gabrielle Osborn, and her great grandchildren Tyson Wayne and Peyton Amanda Absher; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Wetumka First Methodist Church with her son Kelly and a nephew Rev. Clay Shannon officiating. Pallbearers will be Clay Shannon, Wade Bagwell, Kris Osborn, Ronnie Miller, Randy Richmond, and Dr. Glen Diacon. Honorary Pallbearers are Robert David Miller, Donnie Ray Goodin and Tyson Absher.  Interment will follow at the Wetumka Cemetery under the direction of the Williamson-Spradlin Funeral Home.
